Sandwich Franchise Charley’s Grilled Subs Opens 100th Military Location. Military Bases Offer Fast-Growth for
Philly Steak Franchise.

Columbus, OH – (September 2011) – Charley’s Grilled Subs, the international Philly Steak
sandwich franchise, is opening its 100th restaurant on a military installation this month, marking a significant milestone with the company’s largest
franchise partner, the Army & Air Force Exchange Service.
The new restaurant opened Sept. 26 on Joint Base Lewis-McChord near Seattle, WA. The 100th location represents the successful commitment between Charley’s and the Exchange, whose goal is to provide military families merchandise and services worldwide to generate earnings to supplement military morale.
“The Exchange is part of the Charley’s family and has been a terrific partner to help us leverage the popularity of our sandwiches throughout the world, “said Charley Shin, Founder and CEO. “Our restaurants on bases allow us to serve military personnel high quality food, whether they are deployed overseas or stationed in the U.S.“
The first Charley’s to open on a military installation was in June 1999 at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii. To date, Charley’s is the third largest name-brand fast food concept found on military bases throughout the world.
The company, founded in 1986 by Charley Shin, has grown to more than 430 locations in 16 countries. In 2010 alone, 38 new Charley’s restaurants opened. The company is planning to build another 46 locations this year. In addition to fast U.S. restaurant growth, Charley’s has also hit some milestones with development overseas – Charley’s recently signed its 12th location in the United Arab Emirates and will soon be opening in the Dubai International Airport in Terminal 1. In addition, Charley’s expanded this year to the Dominican Republic and Brazil for the first time.
