Home Care Franchises Exceed $1 Million in Sales. Rising Demand for Skilled In-Home Care Presents Profitable Business Opportunity for Entrepreneurs.
OMAHA, Neb. — According to Right at Home’s 2011
Franchise Disclosure Document, the
home care franchise rounded up its best year yet. Of the 168 offices that have been open for at least a year, fifty-nine of them posted over $1 million in annual sales during 2010.
“We are proud to have so many of our franchisees above the million-dollar mark. Our franchisees are truly incredible people. The fact that most of them started this business without any prior home care experience is a testament to their hard work and dedication to helping others.” Eric Little, senior vice president of
franchise development for
Right at Home, said. “At the corporate office, we also work tirelessly to provide industry-leading training and support, and to provide franchisees with the tools they need to differentiate themselves in their local markets.”
In the U.S. alone, 12.9 percent of the nation's 300 million people are age 65 and older. Noting the growing senior care industry, Robert Scandura transitioned into the industry four years ago. He spent over 20 years living with and caring for his grandparents. It was after his experience of providing quality of life for them that he made the transition from his business management career to business owner with Right at Home. After just four years, Scandura is Right at Home’s highest earning franchisee, rolling in $9.4 million in sales last year alone.
“In just four short years, my business has 300 caregivers and over 100 families that we work with consistently,” said Scandura. “My heart and soul is in my business and taking the calculated risk has really paid off. I love what I do and fortunately I make a good living doing it.”
Ted Bernhardt is another million dollar
Right at Home franchise owner. Bernhardt said goodbye to his 25-year career as a senior level executive in the publishing industry to
become a franchise owner with Right at Home.
“When I first signed on to become a franchisee with
Right at Home, I had no health services experience, but I knew how to manage a business.” Bernhardt said. “I figured the
franchise would teach me what I needed to know about the senior care industry and I’d rely on my management background to grow my business. Today, I have about 190 caregivers who serve 260 families which accounted for over $5 million in sales last year.”
Scandura and Bernhardt are among the 57 others who grossed more than one million dollars in sales with Right at Home in 2010. Right at Home franchised offices are staffed with professional caregivers trained to deliver three levels of client assistance: Companionship; Personal Care; and Light Skilled Nursing.
"Companionship can include cooking, cleaning and running errands, but most often it's about being a friend to the client, spending time with them," Little said. "Personal Care requires a little more, such as helping the client get out of the bed and into the shower or helping them get around the house. Light Skilled Nursing includes administering medications or perhaps dressing a wound. It's a higher-touch role."
Part of what makes Right at Home so attractive to potential franchisees during the recession is the low-cost initial investment. The
business opportunity is designed for professionals who have a passion helping others in their communities as well as protecting their investments. Using Right at Home's proven community marketing system and referrals, franchisees have built significant businesses that have grown steadily despite the recent recession.
"Our average office revenue grew 28.3 percent in 2010, and we've got well established offices that are eight to nine years old are still growing 16.4 percent," Little said. "While one of our goals is to add
new franchise partners to our system, our main focus is helping our existing franchisees expand their businesses."
ABOUT RIGHT AT HOME
Right at Home, a privately held provider of in-home elder care and assistance, was founded in 1995 by Allen Hager, a hospital administrator who was concerned patients needed additional assistance after their discharge from the hospital. Today, Right at Home generates more than $173 million in annual revenue through its 200-plus offices across the United States, the United Kingdom and Brazil. Outlets are franchisee-owned and operated, and staff skilled professionals trained to provide home-based care for thousands of clients daily.
